Tips on Cosplay

May 12th, 2011 Comments off

Cosplay” is a combination of the words ‘costume’ and ‘play’, a sort of performance in which people dress up like various characters. The characters could be fictional or real, from history, politics, tv, or even advertisements. If you’re able to picture it, you can create a costume to represent it. Lots of variation may come into play, with cosplayers interjecting new themes to their costumes, as well as swapping a role’s gender.

Typically, but not always, cosplayers are going to be fans of the work they draw their characters from. This isn’t always the case, however; a designer may just take ideas from something they have found, or perhaps a production firm may employ models to wear a costume to advertise their product. Nevertheless, while there are lots of who take the hobby very seriously and can commit a great deal of money and time developing a costume, you can even find more casual cosplayers who create and put on the costumes for fun.

By far the biggest number of cosplayers are anime related. American cosplayers usually gather at conventions held all over the United States and Canada, largely anime related, but often focused on sci-fi or comic books as well. Other convention guests are going to take their shots or ask to have photographs taken with them. While in the convention, many will take part in costume contests, arrange to have their pictures taken professionally, and participate in an over-all costume parade.

Cosplayers can foster a feeling of belonging and togetherness through the private and professional connections they could make. For many, it is all they’ve ever wished for.
